Advocacy

An advocate is a person who can help you to say what you want, secure your rights and represent your needs. 

The following local organisations can provide more information about advocacy or offer an advocacy service:
All age Dementia Advocacy Project (ADAPt) provides an advocacy service for people with dementia.

Independent Complaints Advocacy Service (ICAS) have a web-site which may help people who are unhappy with the service they have received from a hospital, doctor, dentist, local surgery or other NHS service.  Their web-site gives information and practical tips.  They also have advocates who cover the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire area.

Oxfordshire Short-Term Advocacy Scheme (OSTAS) provides trained volunteer advocates.

Action for Advocacy (A4A) is a central point of information on independent advocacy.  They produce a range of publications, run training courses and you can search for advocates on their web-site.
