The Centre can assist you to make decisions about the right equipment for you and tell you how much it should cost. We keep up to date information on equipment from local and national suppliers and have an Information Helpline which is open Monday to Friday from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. (01993 899985).
The Centre does not sell equipment but has a range of equipment on display for you to try.
The Centre provides information booklets known as Wise Buy Guides to enable you to make informed choices when buying equipment.
General information about equipment can also be found on the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF), which is based in London. The DLF have a range of factsheets which provide general advice on topics such as what to look for when choosing items of equipment. The DLF also have a web-site called "living made easy" which may help you choose equipment for bathing, bedrooms, stairs and telecare.
If you have a long-term illness or you are disabled, you do not have to pay VAT on certain goods and services that you buy or bring into the UK. Certain building work that you have done can also be free of VAT. In general, the equipment, services and building work covered by this scheme are things that are of practical help to you because of your illness or disability.
