Equipment Purchase

Before purchasing equipment you may wish to see if you are eligible for any equipment through Oxfordshire County Council.

Oxfordshire County Council have set up the "Help to Live at Home equipment catalogue", which allows you to self-assess and choose equipment for yourself.  The on-line catalogue of equipment is available to people who are permanent residents of Oxfordshire.

The Guideposts Trust Independent Living Centre does not sell equipment, but we can tell you how much it should cost.  We keep up to date information on local and national suppliers.  We also have information on where you can purchase a wide range of equipment.  This includes a map, which lists the details of some local suppliers of equipment.  Items can include small items like specialist pens, long-handled hairbrushes or elastic shoe laces to larger items such as bath lifts, riser-recliner chairs, mobility scooters etc.  If you have seen an item of equipment but cannot find out where to purchase it, please telephone our information line (01993 899985) and we will try to help you.

If you have a long-term illness or you are disabled, you do not have to pay VAT on certain goods and services that you buy or bring into the UK.  Certain building work that you have done can also be free of VAT.  In general, the equipment, services and building work covered by this scheme are things that are of practical help to you because of your illness or disability.  Futher information can be found on the following web-sites:  Direct Gov web-site or HM Revenue and Customs.

Further information about equipment purchase will be added to this section of the web-site in due course.  In the meantime please contact us for further information.
